Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has officially unveiled the updated Mitsubish Triton, now powered by a MIVEC turbo diesel engine, enabling the Triton to be the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer an aluminium diesel engine.
The new engine is a 2.4-litre aluminium alloy block MIVEC turbo diesel engine with VGT intercooler, which offers more power and better fuel efficiency. On paper, the Triton now outputs 181 PS and 430 Nm, yet is able to consume 15% less fuel. The reduced kerb weight also aided with the lowered fuel consumption. Furthermore, the new engine, codenamed 4N15, features a timing chain for reduced maintenance cost.
In addition to the new engine, Mitsubishi has said that the new aluminium alloy engine reduces noise, vibrations and harshness (NVH), creating a more comfortable drive for everyone.
The new Mitsubishi Triton is now available in six variants, with the Triton VGT Adventure X being the flagship model. Standard equipment for the Adventure X includes a shield extender for the front bumper, new sports bar with fullbox and new dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels.
In addition to that, the Triton VGT AT and VGT MT gets upgraded with automatic Bi-Xenon HID headlights with built-in LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and rear fog lights. Elsewhere, the Triton VGT MT receives a new six-speed manual transmission.
The fully-imported from Thailand Mitsubishi Triton continues to feature Mitsubishi’s signature Easy Select 4WD system plus the best-in-class turning radius of 5.9 meters.
In terms of body colour, the Triton VGT Adventure X is available in two new colours, namely Impulse Blue and Titanium Grey. The Triton VGT Adventure continues to be offered with Earth Green, Red Solid, Pearl White and Shadow Black, while the Triton VGT can be had in Sterling Silver, Pearl White and Shadow Black. The Triton 4×4 and Triton Quest can only be had in Sterling Silver and White Solid.
Prices start from RM105,780 for the Triton VGT MT 4×4, all the way to RM128,800 for the Triton VGT Adventure X. The updated Triton VGT Adventure AT retails for RM121,800, while the Triton VGT AT has a price tag of RM112,900. All prices are OTR with insurance. MMM targets to sell 500 units of the Triton every month.
