BMW Group, together with their Chinese arm BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd have launched the company’s first-ever compact sports sedan, called the 1-Series Sedan. The car will be sold exclusively in China.
According to BMW, the 1-Series Sedan was made specifically for the needs of the Chinese market. Development and testing took place at BMW’s headquarters with the involvement of Chinese engineers. The engineers also did extensive road and weather tests to ensure that the 1-Series Sedan can cope in China.
The BMW 1-Series Sedan was originally shown as the BMW Concept Compact Sedan during the 2015 Guangzhou Motor Show. The production model mirrors the concept model closely, featuring the company’s signature double kidney grille up front plus LED double round headlamps. In addition to that, the 1-Series Sedan also gets the company’s signature Hofmeister kink.
Inside, the BMW 1-Series Sedan features BMW ConnectedDrive technologies for added driver convenience. The engines that power BMW’s models in China are produced at the new local engine plant in Shenyang.
BMW Brilliance Automotive produces a total of five BMW models for the China market. The introduction of the 1-Series Sedan marks an attractive entry-level models for its customers.
Technical information plus prices have yet to be disclosed by both parties.
