The all-new fifth-generation Nissan Serena was officially launched by Nissan Motor Co in Japan, which is scheduled to go on sale in August.
Nissan says that the all-new Serena still carries design elements of its predecessors, though the new model features a bolder front fascia with the company’s signature V-Motion grille up front with two-tier headlights. Elsewhere, the new Serena also gets blackened A-pillars and a curved roof line. Nissan says that while the A-pillars are thinner than its predecessor, structural integrity was not compromised.
As for the interior, engineers have designed a a thinner instrument panel mounted frontward that delivers a sense of panoramic openness. The slimmer instrument panel also improves outward visibility. Furthermore, Nissan has fitted zero gravity seats into the Serena’s first and second row seats.
Also new on the Serena are its safety equipment, which includes emergency braking system, Lane Departure Warning, Around View Monitor and Smart Rearview Mirror. In addition to that, for the first time ever, the Serena also gets Intelligent Park Assist. Nissan also mentioned that the Serena also marks the debut of Nissan’s autonomous technology, ProPilot. The system can automatically control the accelerator, brakes and steering when driving on the highway, in both heavy and flowing traffic.
While the new Nissan Serena continues to utilize the outgoing model’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, Nissan says that they have worked on the engine, allowing it to deliver even better fuel economy. Thanks to a new variable power steering system, steering the new MPV exhibits more accuracy and better response than before. Furthermore, engineers have reinforced the Serena’s structure around the rear doors and installed larger shock absorbers, allowing the Serena to exhibit sharper reflexes during lateral transitions.
Given all the improvements the new Nissan Serena receives, Nissan says that the entry price of the new MPV is set below 3 million yen (RM115,000).
