An Interview with Matthias Boldt

Recently Travis shared a story about a Mitsubishi Colt which had 978hp. It was insane because what it meant was that a Proton Satria (Mitsubishi Colt) could potentially have the same amount of power as well. The question that came to mind was, could it be done here in Malaysia.

In order to find out a little bit more about the car and it’s awesomeness, I managed to get in contact with the tuner, Matthias Boldt, via email to find out more about how this car came about.

Q: Who is Matthias Boldt?

A: I’m a normal guy from Germany. I am 26 years old and I have a lot of experience with turbo cars. I’m a car-mechanic and I’m neither rich or depend on my parents. The car belongs to me actually.

Q: How long have you been tuning cars?

A: I have been tuning turbo cars for the past 8 years

Q: What is your modding philosophy? Pure power or an overall comprehensible car?

A: I like horsepower ,you can see in the video on YouTube. I don’t like tuning cars that look like those in “Too Fast Too Furious” with big spoiler or chrome rims. To me it is all about the tuning and how to make the car to be as close to a race car is.

Q: Which in your opinion are easier to tune (producing the best bang for buck improvements overall), a Japanese Car or a German car?

A: Neither, when you know how to tune an engine, there isn’t any problems problem. Just that a lot of JDM (Japan Domestic Market) engines have a strong stock engine.

Q: How long did it take for you to complete modding the Mitsubishi Colt?

A: The Colt? It took me 9 months to complete it

Q: What parts were used to mod the car? In particularly the AWD system for the car.

A: Before the Colt build, I used to have a Mitsubishi Evo 2. This car was running for over a year with 900hp, which was also self-tuned. I have used the complete engine and drivetrain with some small upgrades for the colt. The gearbox are self-made with straight cut gears.

Q: As you slowly tuned the car, how did you test out that the tuning is stable? Most cars tuned usually end up with too high of a boost causing engine failure or with the modern cars, the check engine light keeps popping up.

A: I have years of experience with that engine, sometimes a part breaks but all its usually a small problem and doesn’t cost much to fix. To me, it’s a race car. With only a 2.0 litre engine, with that much horsepower under the hood, it can’t go all perfect without any failures 😉

Q: Compared to your other mod projects, would this be rated as one of your top projects?

A: Yes. I also tuned other Mitsubishi Evos, the last one I tuned made up to 750hp at the dyno

Q: What is your next big project perhaps we can be on the lookout for?

A: My next project? I don’t know yet, but I’m sure that’s not the last car I tune 🙂

Q: What is your dream car you would like to tune personally?

A: My dream car? All cars with a good hp 4g63 engine will suffice for me. Also a nicely tuned 400hp early Mitsubishi Evo would also be fun for me. I really like the 2g red demon, that’s a really badass car 😉

What blew me away was that Matthias uses this car as his daily driver. A car with more than 900 horses used as a daily driver, that is insane! Some quick stats, his engine has already clocked more than 10,000km with this current tune and it runs fine in the summer as well. I am blown away by his ability to tune and build such an amazing car with crazy amounts of power and able to drive on a daily basis all at the tender age of 26. My hats off to you mate!

p.s. Matthias Boldt also owns a Proton Satria GTI!!!
