The mighty Nissan GT-R has received its most significant change since its first introduction back in 2007. The new MY17 Nissan GT-R has been officially unveiled by Nissan at the 2016 New York Auto Show.
Outside, the Nissan GT-R receives the company’s latest V-Motion front grille, which has been enlarged to provide better engine cooling. The front grille now features a new matte chrome finish as well as an updated mesh design. The MY17 GT-R also receives a new front hood, featuring larger character lines from the grille, which enhances high-speed stability. A freshly designed front spoiler lip and front bumpers with finishers are positioned right below the headlamps generates high levels of front downforce.
Along the sides, engineers have pushed the side sills out to direct air flow around the car. The signature four-ring tail light remain, and the MY17 GT-R gains functional side air vents next to the quad exhaust tips. The MY17 Nissan GT-R boasts a 0.26 drag coefficient.
Moving inside, the dashboard is all-new for the MY17 Nissan GT-R. The older models had 27 switches, which has been reduced to just 11 in the new model, thanks to the integrated navigation and audio control into the new 8-inch capacitive touch-panel display. The new display replaces the old model’s 7-inch display, which now features large icons on the display screen, while a new Display Command control on the carbon-fiber center console also allows easy operation. The paddle shifters have also been shifted to the new steering wheels, which was previously mounted to the steering column.
The GT-R’s award-winning 3.8-litre V6 twin-turbocharged engine now delivers 565 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 633 Nm of torque, a healthy increase of 20 HP and 5 Nm respectively, from last year’s model.
The MY17 Nissan GT-R also gains a more rigid body structure and new suspension, as well as new 20-inch 15-spoke forged aluminum wheels. Nissan claims that the new GT-R is also the most comfortable to date, thanks to Active Noise Cancellation technology and new sound absorption materials, including an acoustic glass windshield.
