Scion is dead. Toyota’s supposed youthful brand has definitely seen better days, and by August 2016, all Scion models will be renamed to Toyotas.

While the Scion FR-S will be called the Toyota 86 in North America, other Scion models, like the Scion iA and Scion iM too, will be renamed as the Toyota Yaris iA and Toyota Corolla iM, respectively.

When we announced the transition of the Scion models to Toyota we hadn’t planned on changing the names of our cars, but by popular demand, for our sports car, we decided to adopt the global name of 86,” said Toyota’s group vice president Bill Fay.

Elsewhere, the Scion iA sedan, effectively a rebadged Mazda 2 sedan, will be called the Toyota Yaris iA, while the iM hatchback will be renamed to the Corolla iM. Both cars will only receive new badges, while powertrain and trim are expected to remain unchanged.

The Yaris iA will continue with the 1.5-litre SkyActiv-G four-cylinder petrol engine, paired to a six-speed manual or six-speed manual. As for the Corolla iM, this model will soldier on with a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol, which can be had with a CVT or a six-speed manual.

Toyota also said that they will unify the sales figure for the Corolla and Corolla iM as a single unit, which the company will also do the same for the Mazda-built iA sedan.
