The Volkswagen Phaeton is the German’s flagship sedan, aimed at the likes of the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and its own sibling, the Audi A8. Sadly, due to budget cuts, Volkswagen has ceased production of the Phaeton.
Good news for those in China, as Volkswagen has debuted the new Phideon, which VW says “combines distinguished elegance with maximum dynamic performance.”
The Volkswagen Phideon was developed in Germany, and will go into production in China in Q3 2016. According to Volkswagen, this four door coupe is positioned as both a sports saloon as well as a chauffeur-driven limousine.
Outside, the 5 meter long Phideon features a large grille up front, various chrome elements, and the ambient exterior lighting makes a debut with this saloon. Moving inside, the rear passenger compartment features a lounge design, while Volkswagen has integrated the newly developed Active Info Display for a virtual 3D look and chauffeur mode, which allows the passenger to send information to the infotainment system.
The Volkswagen Phideon will get a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 at launch, which pumps out a healthy 295 hp and 470 Nm of torque. The Phideon will feature Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, though a front wheel drive variant will be available later, as well as a downsized engine.
