Honda Automobile (Thailand) Company has officially begun production of the new 1.5-litre turbocharged engine. The new engine will be made in the company’s new plant in Rojana Industrial Park, Prachinburi, Thailand.
The new production plant will produce engine parts, including cylinder heads, connecting rods, crankshafts and engine blocks. The plant will also be producing the 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine for the Civic.
The new Prachinburi plant will manufacture complete engines and engine parts for export use, especially for Honda assembly plants in the Asean region and Oceanic region.
Apart from engines, the Prachinburi plant will also assemble the tenth-generation Honda Civic, which will be launched in Thailand this March.
Pitak Pruittisarikorn, Chief Operating Officer of Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co said, “The new Prachinburi plant is a key move taken by Honda to expand our automobile production in Thailand with an aim to be a strategic export hub for the world. A new Prachinburi plant will support our manufacturing and export operations currently done by the Thai production base in Ayutthaya to meet growing customer demand worldwide in the future. The start of the Prachinburi plant and the Civic production kick-off will mark a milestone of Honda’s operation in Thailand.”
