Muhammad Zulfahmi Khairuddin – Malaysia’s first full season rider in the World Supersport Championship – is banking on his strong fitness to make a positive impact in the early rounds of the championship, which opens in Phillip Island, Australia at the end of this month.
“I have been working hard on my fitness here at home. I hope that my good fitness level will help boost my performance and make up for the limited time I have had for testing the bike. I was happy with the first test in Jerez, but time was limited due to the challenging weather,” Zulfahmi shared. He currently rides for the Spain-based Orelac Racing Team.
“I am really looking forward to my second test in Phillip Island and to the opening round of the championship. I still have plenty to learn and understand. The test in Phillip Island is very important as we will have the full grid lineup, unlike in Jerez. There, I was unable to really gauge my standings as many riders did not participate in the test in Spain,” he added.
“I aim to do well in Phillip Island and will give my very best to ensure a good start to the season. A good beginning will provide the confidence and necessary momentum to elevate our challenge for the remainder of the season. Based on my first test in Jerez, the bike is competitive and I am happy with its performance. With more testing, I am confident of scoring vital championship points in Australia,” commented Zulfahmi. The opening race weekend will take place on 26 to 28 February 2016.
“While I have experience competing in Phillip Island, this race presents contrasting conditions. In MotoGP, we raced in the winter, but it will be much hotter this time round, since it is summer. Nevertheless, I will use my understanding of the track to good effect and push for a good result,” said Zulfahmi, who is riding a Kawasaki ZX6R this season.
