Proton has initiated a recall affecting approximately 94, 577 Proton Preve, Exora and Suprima models in Malaysia as the oil cooler hose could burst at an average mileage of 40,000km.
According to the local automaker, the internal hose material could degrade over time and could burst in the affected vehicles. Proton did point out that the problem is due to the incorrect selection of material for the oil cooler hose.
The issue is said to occur when the lubricant chemical properties turned to acidic based and couldn’t withstand the high-temperatures. Proton is considering to replace the faulty rubber hose with a metal unit, and claimed that this recall initiative will begin immediately and is expected to be completed within the next six months.
The owners of 59,663 Proton Exora, 28, 642 Proton Preve and 6,290 Suprima models will be contacted directly on the matter by Proton when the fix will begin. However, priority will be given the cars with mileage of 40,000km and above.
