The much-awaited 2016 Toyota Hilux will be making a debut here some time in May, but before that happens, let’s take a closer look at the trim levels and estimated prices!
UMW Toyota Motor will be offering six different variants of the Toyota Hilux, ranging from the base Hilux 2.4 MT Single Cab 4×4, Hilux 2.4 Standard MT Double Cab 4×4, Hilux 2.4 MT Double Cab 4×2, Hilux 2.4G MT Double Cab 4×4, Hilux 2.4G AT Double Cab 4×4 and the range-topping Hilux 2.8G AT Double Cab 4×4.
Starting from the base model is the Toyota Hilux 2.4 MT 4×4 Single Cab. This variant features a 2,393 cc 2GD-FTV diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. This new engine boasts 150 hp at 3,400 rpm and the maximum torque of 400 Nm is available from 1,600 rpm till 2,000 rpm. This engine is used for all variants of the new Hilux, except the range-topping Hilux 2.8G. The base model has an estimated price of RM93,000, OTR with GST and insurance.
Key highlights of the base model Toyota Hilux include:

Moving one level above the base Hilux is the Hilux 2.4 Standard MT Double Cab 4×4. Like the base model, this model also features the same 2.4-litre 2GD diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. This variant retails for RM105,000, OTR with GST and insurance.
The double cab variant of the base Hilux has the same features as the single cab, but with these additions:
- Black manual adjustable wing mirrors with turn signal lamp
- 265/65R17 steel wheels with plastic covers
- Inclusive of bedliner
- Fabric seats
Next up is the Toyota Hilux 2.4 MT Double Cab 4×2. This variant is slotted below the double cab variant, with prices estimated at RM95,000. This is the sole 4×2 variant of the new Hilux that UMW Toyota Motor offers.
The 4×2 double cab variant adds these features over the 2.4 Standard MT Double Cab 4×4:
- Black, power adjustable wing mirrors with turn signal lamp
- Powered windows with driver side auto up and down
- Without 4WD transfer switch
- No rear differential lock
The fourth model in the new Toyota Hilux lineup is the Hilux 2.4G MT Double Cab 4×4. This variant also features the same 2.4-litre 2GD diesel engine, mated to the same six-speed manual transmission. This variant has an estimated retail price of RM115,000, OTR with GST and insurance.

The last of the 2.4-litre variant is the Hilux 2.4G AT Double Cab 4×4. This model features a new six-speed automatic that drives all four wheels. The self-shifting 2.4G variant has an estimated price of RM125,000.

This variant uses a 2.8-litre 1GB-FTV diesel engine that pumps out 177 horsepower at 3,400 rpm and the peak torque of 450 Nm is available from 1,600 rpm till 2,400 rpm. This model has an estimated price of RM135,000, OTR with insurance and GST.

Buyers can choose from six different metallic colours for their new Hilux, including Silver Metallic, Medium Silver Metallic, Attitude Black, Grey Metallic, Crimson Spark Red Metallic and Avant-garde Bronze Metallic. The sole non-metallic colour choice is Super White II. The single cab variant is only available in Solid White. The new 2016 Toyota Hilux is expected to make a Malaysian debut some time in May, so stay tuned for that!
