The late Marco Simoncelli, the flamboyant and aggressive rider with ‘the’ hair, is set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a MotoGP Legend. The Italian MotoGP rider’s promising racing career in the premier MotoGP category was tragically cut short when he lost his life in an accident at Sepang in 2011, just one week after his best finish in MotoGP (second place) at Phillip Island.
Simoncelli’s induction as a MotoGP Legend will take place at this year’s Italian Grand Prix at Mugello. The former 2008 250cc (pre Moto2 era) champion, also known by his nickname SuperSic, will be joining the ranks of 20 other MotoGP legends, and he will be the 21st entry of the list.
Among the riders inside the MotoGP legends are Giacomo Agostini, Mick Doohan, Geoff Duke, Wayne Gardner, Mike Hailwood, Daijiro Kato, Eddie Lawson, Anton Mang, Angel Nieto, Wayne Rainey, Phil Read, Jim Redman, Kenny Roberts, Jarno Saarinen, Kevin Schwantz, Barry Sheene, Freddie Spencer, John Surtees, Casey Stoner and Carlo Ubbiali.
