Apparently it is good for those people working in the automotive sector to build something special during their spare time. The Honda race cars that raced in endurance races in Sepang was built by the Honda workers in Pegoh plant during their spare time, and the beautiful Lamborghini Miura wouldn’t make possible if the Lamborghini’s engineering team prefers to spend time by playing football or collecting stamps. So what we have here is an ambitious engineer from Toyota to build a plug-in sports car when his office hours have ended. The result is the Toyota TE-S800, a sweet looking lightweight roadster that goes 0-100 KM/H under 6 seconds!
The engineer managed to scrap everything they can find from the Toyota’s parts bin – to start he obtained the MRS platform and numerous of parts salvaged from the Prius. The 1.5L 1NZ-FE engine that powers the current Toyota Vios were plugged into the engine bay, coupled with the 102-horsepower electric motor from the current Prius. The Toyota E-CVT transmission were used, and it has the ability to plug it in for an extra dose of all-electric range . To boost performance, a free-flowing sport exhaust was installed.
The result was a great looking green sports car which hopefully sets the direction for the future of small lightweight sports cars. If the Italians’s past time project has started the trend of two-seater mid engine performance sports cars, you will never know the efforts of this Japanese engineer will pave the way for Toyota to develop a hybrid sports car.
