Audi and Volkswagen officials informed the EPA that the 3.0-litre diesel software is present on all vehicles powered by that engine since 2009. Earlier, the EPA said that the software was discovered on MY14 – MY16 models with Audi-developed 3.0-litre diesel engines, which includes large SUVs and sedans from Audi.

The EPA has mentioned that the additional model years will include another 75,000 vehicles in the United States alone, and an additional 10,000 from MY14 – MY16 earlier this month. MY16 vehicles with the said 3.0-litre diesel engine also contains the software, though numbers are unknown as yet.

Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen has since halted sales of vehicles with the 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine.

We are fully cooperating with the environmental authorities and working on concrete measures that will resolve this situation,” Audi of America communications chief Jeri Ward said. “We’ll need some software changes in the future that will ultimately resolve this and there are more discussions that will be needed with the agencies.
