Volkswagen of America has halted production of the diesel-powered 2016 Passat at its Chattanooga plant. This move is part of Volkswagen’s ‘dieselgate’ scandal which involves millions of diesel-powered vehicles worldwide.
Scott Wilson, VW’s spokesman for the Chattanooga plant said, “As we are in the middle of the ramp up of the production volume, it is no problem to adjust the mix to accommodate this change.” Petrol-powered 2016 Passats are scheduled to arrive to dealerships in the US later this month.
Thus far, Volkswagen has remained tight-lipped on the availability of the diesel-powered Passat. VW has continued production of the Passat, even after the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) exposed their illegal emissions software. Sales of the 2016 Passat has been banned since then.
Volkswagen launched the 2016 Passat back in September, just a few days after the dieselgate scandal started.
