A regional contestant won the MediaCorp Subaru Car Challenge 2015 for the first time ever! 33 year old engineer, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Huynh from Vietnam, clocked in 77 hours and 58 minutes to win the Grand Prize. First runner up from Malaysia, Mr. Tan Hong Sheng and second runner up Yip Yu Wai from Singapore dropped out within 3 minutes of each other.
Visibly overcomed with joy and relief, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Huynh was all smiles and happily posed with his family, friends and fellow countrymen at the arena. As a result of Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Huynh’s steadfast resilience and strong willpower, he will be going home with the title of overall winner and the Grand Prize of an all-new Subaru XV 2.0 i-S. The first and second runner up won cash prizes of RM15,000 and RM6,000 respectively.
Despite having to endure challenging conditions over the last four days, including extreme fatigue and sleep deprivation, the atmosphere within the contest ground remained positive. Participants also seemed to have benefitted from the strong turn-out and words of encouragement from crowds of friends and families present to show their support.
Presenting the coveted prize of a Subaru XV 2.0 i-S to Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Huynh was Mr Glenn Tan, Executive Director, Tan Chong International Ltd and Jack Lim, Chief Commercial Officer at MediaCorp.
“For the first time ever, a regional contestant has won the Challenge. 400 strong participants entered the arena on Saturday to battle it out for the Grand Prize. Although the cool weather coupled with the tent caused participants to fall asleep faster, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Huynh kept his eyes wide open and outlasted everyone. As a result of his tenacity and perseverance, I am extremely happy that a regional contestant has upped the ante and beat 320 Singaporeans,” said Mr Glenn Tan, Executive Director, Tan Chong International Ltd.
The winner, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Huynh also clinched the title of Asian Winner and walked away with additional RM15,000 cash for his feat in being the last remaining regional contestant.
The Malaysia team was awarded the title of Country Team Winner, for achieving the longest combined standing time (accumulated total time of all 10 representatives from the same country) of 518 hours and 45 minutes. They will also be going home with a cash prize of RM30,000.
In recognition of the efforts by the regional contestants, the title of Country Winner and a cash prize of RM3,000 went to the last standing representative from each country.
