After KIA hinted everyone on what supposed to be their most exciting car, the rear-wheel sports car has been finally revealed in Detroit Motor Show. According to KIA, the company “harks back to the days of affordable sports cars”, which means this is the direct competitor to the current undisputed affordable sports cars in the market, the Toyobaru twins. The car is designed by Kia’s California design team.
Named as the “GT4 Stinger”, this ‘2+2’ coupe is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged engine, producing approx 315 BHP and mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Spotted on the front is KIA’s huge tiger grille, complemented with a pair of tall and thin LED light clusters. Meanwhile, on the sides, the transparent A-pillars were spotted, providing a 270-degree view from the driver’s seat.
KIA has mentioned this concept provides a “possible glimpse into Kia’s future”. It is the car where driving enjoyment was given the highest priority, and a throwback to the days when driving a car was a visceral experience that wasn’t muted by electronic gimmickry.
