Mention the yellow supercar that gather the most attention at this year’s North America International Auto Show (or the Detroit Motor Show) and the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 quickly comes into mind – arguably America’s answer to the onslaught of European supercars.

The new Corvette Z06 was powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, producing around 625 ponies and 635 pound-feet of torque. The V8 have been integrated with a 1.7-liter Eaton supercharger, although the new Z06 can sip fuel economically if required via Chevrolet’s Active Fuel Management, as well as direct injection and variable valve timing. Transmission options including a 7-speed manual or the all-new 8 -speed automatic, with GM claims the new automatic box has wide-open-throttle upshifts executed up to eight-hundredths of a second quicker than the dual-clutch from the Porsche 911.

On the aesthetics, the new Z06 does not differ to the race machine of the predecessor that raced at the Le Mans endurance race. New to the new Z06 is the inclusion of the removal roof section, which allows drivers to get closer and mesmerize the screaming loud V8 engine.  There is also a track-focused Z07 performance package, which basically converts the Z06 into a track beast, with claims the Z06 with such package has faster lap times than the 2014 Corvette ZR1.

The 2015 Corvette Z06 goes on sale in early 2015. Although no indicative price is given, but just as the previous Corvettes, it will be an undercut over the European supercars.
