Ferrari has recently unveiled the F12tdf which pays homage to the Tour de France, the legendary endurance road race that Ferrari dominated in the 1950s and ‘60s, particularly with the 1956 250 GT Berlinetta which won four consecutive editions.
Limited to 799 examples, the F12tdf is described as the ultimate expression of the concept of an extreme road car that is equally at home on the track.
The car keeps the same 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine as the regular F12 Berlinetta, but power has been boosted from 719bhp to 770bhp at 8500rpm, while torque has increased from 690Nm to 705Nm at 6750rpm. Ferrari says 80% of the car’s torque is available from 2500rpm. All that power is channeled to the wheels through a tweaked version of the F1 DCT gearbox that now has 6% shorter gear ratios and offers 30% faster upshifts and 40% faster downshifts.
As a result, the F12tdf is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h sprint in 2.9 seconds and complete the 0-200 km/h journey in 7.9 seconds before topping out at more than 340 km/h. Ferrari’s test drivers have already put the car through its paces at Fiorano and managed to lap the track in only 1 minute and 21 seconds.
These impressive performances were also possible by making extensive use of carbon fiber inside and out which has shaved off the F12tdf’s kerb weight by 110kg over the standard car.
Ferrari hasn’t revealed an official price for the F12tdf yet, but it’s likely to cost more than the regular F12 Berlinetta. It is expected to will make its official public debut at the Mugello circuit in Italy as part of Ferrari’s Finali Mondiali World Finals on 8th November.
