The Mitsubishi Lancer is no stranger to its segment, thanks to its fun-to-drive nature and good looks. For the 2016 model year, Mitsubishi has seen fit to facelift the ageing Lancer, giving it a restyled front end and equipment upgrade.
“The 2016 Lancer not only looks good with its updated styling, but it drives and performs at a level well beyond its value-oriented price point,” said Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. executive vice president, Don Swearingen. “The new 2016 Lancer builds upon the legacy of challenging what a compact car can be in terms of design, technology and performance, all at an affordable price.”
For the 2016 facelift, Mitsubishi has given the Lancer a more serious front end, dropping the pre-facelift’s signature shark nose. The new bumper also brings along a pair of boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights surrounding the front foglights. The MY16 Lancer also gets redesigned 16- and 18-inch wheels, as well as Diamond White Pearl and Alloy Silver as new colours.
Moving inside, the MY16 Lancer gets a revised centre console with a built-in USB port, while the seats get a new fabric. Mitsubishi says that the new generation CVT8 improves driving performance and fuel economy. Engine choices remain identical as before, including the 2.0-litre 148 horsepower MIVEC.
Considering that our units are fully-imported from Japan, the facelifted Lancer could be seeing a local debut within the next few months.
