PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) has announced that beginning 9 September at 12pm, today, the company will implement a full electronic toll payment system at the Penang Bridge Toll Plaza, Jitra Toll Plaza, Bukit Kayu Hitam Toll Plaza, Kubang Semang Toll Plaza and Lunas Toll Plaza.
The move is aimed to ease the traffic flow and to save everybody’s time by paying via SmartTag or Touch n’ Go. At the moment, there will be a dedicated 24-hours line for Touch n’ Go purchases. Motorists can purchase their electronic card from there.
PLUS estimates that there are at least 82,000 road users that access the Penang bridge daily, 40,000 road users in Kubang Semang, 34,000 road users in Lunas , 22,000 road users in Jitra and 3,000 motorists in Bukit Kayu Hitam per day.
Based on the company’s observation, there are at least 20,000 motorists that still pay by using cash at these five major toll plazas.
PLUS Managing Director, Dato’ Noorizah Hj Abd Hamid said, “The introduction of the electronic payment system not only facilitates smoother toll transactions at the toll plazas, but at the same time offers the public the chance to enjoy 20% toll rebate per month beginning 1 September until end of this year.”
However, Penang Bridge users who are currently enjoying the existing 20% toll discount will not be eligible for the 20% toll rebate.
According to Noorizah, the calculation is based on 30 days per month and PLUS’ 20% toll rebate schemes for paying toll electronically as follows:-

“In addition, the public can also purchase SmartTAGs at a promotional rate of RM96.00 (inclusive of 6% GST) at Customer Service Centres at the Penang Bridge Toll Plaza, Jitra and Kubang Semang (while stock lasts). The Customer Service Centres operate from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm every day,” Noorizah added.
They can also purchase preloaded RM5 PLUSMiles Touch ‘n Go card at a promotional rate of RM5 (card is free) at the toll lanes at Penang Bridge Toll Plaza, Jitra, Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kubang Semang and Lunas.
