Following the official debut of BMW 640i Gran Coupé just a few days ago, BMW Group Malaysia has now taken the wraps-off the second generation BMW X6 M Sports Activity Coupé (SAC).
As the name suggests, the overall styling of the BMW X6 M features plenty of M-specific characteristics. Its front is dominated by the wide M double-bridge kidney grille and large three-part air inlets to form the vehicle’s distinctive appearance.
Its dynamic character meanwhile is further emphasised by a coupé-like silhouette which combines a low occupant cell, sloping roofline and pronounced wedge shape with M side-skirts and a two-part crease line. The muscular shoulder line culminates in an eye-catching rear spoiler which reduces axle lift, proving that striking design can be functional, and M twin tailpipes which are enlarged by 10mm.
Aside from that, the BMW X6 M now includes M twin-arm exterior mirrors with integrated direction indicators, gills behind the front wheels, muscular flared wheel arches, and 21” M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres.
The new BMW X6 M, now lowered by 10mm, sports M-specific chassis modifications which include stiffer springs. Working in conjunction with the active Dynamic Drive anti-roll system, the new BMW X6 M receives significant reduction of lateral tilt and body-roll in fast bends while Dynamic Performance Control reduces understeer, making cornering that much more exhilarating. The new BMW X6 M is also equipped with a pneumatic rear suspension featured as standard. These enhancements and the Dynamic Damper Control with electronically adjustable damping for COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT + modes ensure a balance between high-level dynamism and comfort.
With its new axle design, specially developed non-runflat tyres and an M-tuned xDrive all-wheel drive system, the new BMW X6 M also ensures road-gripping traction and delivers perfect distribution of drive between the front and rear axles, allowing for optimal traction in all situations. Meanwhile, additional support comes from the M Servotronic, a rack-and-pinion steering system with electric speed-dependent power-steering adjustment. Drivers can also customise various steering parameters with the Driving Dynamic buttons to adapt the steering characteristics to their personal preferences.
At the core of the new BMW X6 M lies a 4.4-litre V8 M TwinPower Turbo engine that delivers 575hp – 20hp more than its predecessor – and a 10% increase in torque to 750 Nm. The new BMW X6 M also carries an acceleration time of 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. Despite this performance, fuel consumption and C02 emissions have been reduced by more than 20% to just 11.1l/100km and 258g/km respectively.
The power delivery of the new BMW X6 M is transmitted via the new 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. As an M exclusive feature, there is no automatic force-transmitting connection between the engine and the transmission when the vehicle is at a standstill. This prevents the vehicle from moving immediately after selecting Drive and releasing the brake; the car will only move with a short tap on the accelerator.
The new BMW X6 M also comes with a cross-bank exhaust manifold for perfect exhaust gas flow, optimum power development and quick responsiveness. Engineered with unique auditory indicators, the car also produces a distinctive growl when the engine shifts through its gears for a more sporty appeal.
Inside the cabin, the sporty characteristic of the BMW X6 M is enhanced by a three-spoke leather-wrapped M steering wheel with integrated gearshift paddles. The M gearshift lever and the driving dynamics buttons are orientated towards the driver and located in the centre console which is flanked by knee-pads for increased comfort.
Elsewhere, buyers will be able to find M multifunction seats, an M instrument cluster with a display area for M-specific dynamic systems and an M Drive Menu in the Control Display to customise driving characterestics via the M Drive buttons on the steering wheel as standard features. The BMW X6 M also arrives with BMW ConnectedDrive features including the latest generation navigation system, which benefits from enhanced functionality, better graphics and 3D map display.
Other additional features for the new BMW X6 M include the optional full-colour Head-Up Display with an M-specific view for displaying gears and rev range with Shift Lights. For drivers who would like an in-depth analysis of their driving style, the BMW M lap timer app for selected smartphones can also be accessed via the iDrive Controller.
The estimated retail prices (on the road, without insurance with BMW Malaysia’s latest 5 Years Unlimited Mileage Warranty and Free Scheduled Service Program) of the new BMW X6 M is RM 1,238 800. Currently, the BMW X6 M is the most expensive BMW sold in Malaysia seeing as how its plug-in hybrid BMW i8 supercar retails for just RM1,188,800.
