Following the official debut of the Lexus LX 570 at the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance last weekend, Toyota has taken the wraps-off its slightly less luxurious sibling, the Land Cruiser 200.
The facelifted Land Cruiser 200 is the first model to introduce the automaker’s flagship active safety package, Toyota Safety Sense P, to the Japanese market. Offered as standard on all grades, Toyota Safety Sense P is a higher-spec version of the Toyota Safety Sense C package, which debuted earlier this year on Corolla models in Japan.
The active safety package includes Pre-collision System with pedestrian detection, Radar Cruise Control (with brake control), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Tire Pressure Warning System. In addition, Toyota offers a panoramic multi-terrain monitor which helps assess safety conditions all around the vehicle.
Furthermore, drivers can now check the positioning of tyres and safety conditions under the vehicle, thanks to the under floor view (watch the video below). The shape of the road surface ahead of the vehicle and the inclination of the vehicle can also be checked intuitively via a front view rotating display.
The Land Cruiser 200 is offered with a single engine option in Japan, a 4.6-litre V8 petrol unit producing 314hp and 460Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission which sends power to all four-wheels. Average fuel economy according to Japan’s JC08 cycle is 6.9 km/L (14.5 l/100 km).
In the Australian market, the Land Cruiser 200 will also be offered with a revised twin-turbo 4.5-litre diesel engine which has gained new injectors, revised mapping and a diesel particulate filter (DPF). Thanks to these updates, the engine now produces 268hp, an increase of 7hp, while peak torque remains 650Nm. Fuel economy is improved by around 8% to 9.5 l/100 km.
The Toyota Land Cruiser facelift is already available in Japan and will go on sale in Australia in October, followed by other markets in the near future.
