At the most recent ASEAN NCAP round of crash tests, the first Chinese vehicle has been crash-tested in Malaysia. ASEAN NCAP has given the Great Wall Haval M4 a rating of 3 stars.

Scoring 9.64 points out of a maximum of 16 points in Adult Occupant Protection, the Haval M4’s AOP is much lower than cars of the same segment, like the Perodua Myvi and Proton Iriz, which scored 11.55 and 14.07 respectively. In other words, the local cars offer better safety for the driver and front passenger.

The Great Wall Haval M4 redeems itself in Child Occupant Protection, scoring 79%, which is marginally better than the Perodua Myvi, but still behind the Proton Iriz’s 82%.

The tested variant of the Great Wall Haval comes with twin SRS airbags, ABS and EBD but foregoes ESP. ESP is a standard fitment on the AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) variant of the Haval M4.
