Toyota is working hard on the development works for the upcoming Prius, as spyshots of the hybrid undergoing tests has appeared to be taken from San Francisco, USA and Bangkok, Thailand. According to Toyota, the upcoming Prius is set to debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November this year.
Sitting on the new Toyota New Global Architecture (TGNA) platform, the next Prius will sit lower than before, which hopefully, improves handling. Thanks to the growth in length and height, the new Prius could offer better interior space for the passengers. Despite that, the usage of the TGNA platform meant that the Prius is also likely to shed some weight, thus improving fuel economy.
Design wise, the fourth generation Prius will retain its iconic design language, as well as the centrally-mounted instrument panel. Power will come from a hybrid powertrain, with other markets getting the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant of the Prius. Like the current generation Prius, the new Prius will also feature a CVT that drives the front wheels.
Folks in the US can purchase the fourth generation Prius by the end of this year, while other markets will follow suit in the coming months.
