As mentioned in our previous post, the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has announced that the Toyota Innova will be the second MPV model to be recruited for TEKSI 1Malaysia duty.
The first deliveries of the these Toyota Innova models was held recently at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya and as expected, the Innova TEKS1M sports the same golden brown paint scheme as the Malaysian-made Proton Exora TEKS1M and they are intended for the streets of Klang Valley, Johor Baru and Penang.
The Innova is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that produces 136PS and 182Nm of torque. Mated to either a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission, both variants are priced at RM72,550 and RM75,330 respectively. These are on-the-road prices including GST but with an exercise duty exemption, as indicated by UMW Toyota Motor.
According to President of UMW Toyota Motor, Datuk Ismet Suki, the company is very pleased that SPAD has chosen the Toyota Innova as part of their taxi fleet.
“The Toyota has met the criteria set by the SPAD, especially in terms of space and optional extra to taxi under the TEKS1M initiative,” said Datuk Ismet Suki.
Currently, the company has received 300 orders for the Toyota Innova TEKS1M and UMW Toyota Motor targets to sell 700 units of the Innova TEKS1M by the end of 2015.
In October last year, all vehicles that reached a certain license age limit are obliged to change their vehicle to TEKS1M. This is part of the Migration Taxi Industry program to upgrade existing taxi services. A total of 3,367 vehicles has obtained an approval for TEKS1M and are in the process of getting a licence.
In total, TEKS1M licenses issued by SPAD has reached 1,382 licenses. SPAD have also received 3,367 applications for migration from the old to the new class taxi TEKS1M licenses.
