Ford Malaysia has announced that its June retail sales rose 57% from the previous month to 1,001 units, as it continued to regain momentum following implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in April this year.
According to Ford Malaysia, the strong June performance was driven by the Ranger, EcoSport and Fiesta nameplates, all of which recorded consecutive month-over-month sales growth.
“We are pleased to see momentum returning to both the industry and our own performance. Our consistent growth in Malaysia reflects the widening strength and appeal of our brand as we continue to attract many new-to-Ford customers to our expanding showroom,” said David Westerman, managing director, Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.
The class-defining Ranger pickup continued to enjoy strong demand in June, with retail sales that surged 68% month-over-month to 693 units. Year-to-date sales of Ranger have now risen 31% to 4,821 units.
Meanwhile, the EcoSport compact urban SUV delivered its best sales month since being launched in Malaysia in mid-2014 with sales that jumped 68% month-over-month to 138 units.
The sporty and stylish Fiesta on the other hand, delivered June retail sales that increased 41% month-over-month to 106 units. Increasing demand for the Fiesta is being driven by both its 1.5L Ti-VCT and 1.0L EcoBoost variants.
The company plans to continue strengthening the appeal of its Malaysia showroom, with the upcoming launch of several new global Ford vehicles, including the new Ranger, all-new Everest and the iconic Mustang.
