Back in February 2015, Ford officially took the wraps off the new Focus RS. Powered by a 2.3-litre Ford EcoBoost engine, Ford says that the new Focus RS makes no less than 315 horsepower. Doesn’t seem like much? Well, officially, the Ford Focus RS makes 345 horsepower!
You read that right. Three hundred and forty-five horsepower, from a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine is substantial. Unlike the older Focus RS however, the new 2016 Ford Focus RS’s main highlight is the new Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring. This clever system works by having a pair of clutch packs on each side of the rear axle, and manages the torque split between the front and rear. Apart from that, the Dynamic Torque Vectoring can also control the side-to-side torque distribution on the rear axle.
“The all-new Focus RS is a very serious machine with high-performance technology and innovative engineering that sets a new benchmark for driving exhilaration,” said Raj Nair, group vice president, Global Product Development, Ford Motor Company. “The RS line has a proud history of technical breakthroughs that have gone on to benefit all Ford customers, and the new Focus RS is no exception.”
But power aside, perhaps the other highlight of the 2016 Ford Focus RS has to be the Drift Mode. Yes, a Drift Mode is made available on this Focus RS which allows the cars to go in controlled sideways. How cool is that?
The 2016 Ford Focus RS will be making an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed over the weekend, with Ken Block behind the wheel. Watch the teaser video of the 2016 Ford Focus RS below!
