Ahead of its official debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next week, Peugeot has finally taken the wraps off not one, but two 308 GTi hot hatches!
The Peugeot 308 GTi will be offered in two variants, the Peugeot 308 GTi 250 produces 247hp and 330Nm of torque, while the Peugeot 308 GTi 270 churns out 266hp and 330Nm of peak torque. Both models are powered by a 1.6-litre THP S&S turbocharged petrol engine mated to a manual 6-speed manual transmission, with the range-topping model also benefiting from a Torsen limited-slip differential for improved cornering traction.
Tipping the scales at just 1,205 kg, the new Peugeot 308 GTi 250 sprints from 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds whereas its more powerful sibling completes the task 0.2 seconds quicker. Top speed in both cars is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
Even though we’re talking about a hot hatch, Peugeot takes pride in the fuel economy figures of the new 308 GTi, which is said to be the most efficient in its segment. Thanks in part to the standard Stop&Start technology, the compact hot hatch consume just 6 litres /100 km on average, with corresponding CO2 emissions of only 139 g/km.
In terms of overall looks, the Peugeot 308 GTi adopts an understated look, but you’ll soon notice that the 308 GTi features exclusive details such as the full LED headlights, new black radiator grille with a horizontal chequered pattern and gloss-black finishing, red lettering for the Peugeot logo, sharper side sills, gloss black rear diffuser integrating the twin exhaust pipes, as well as GTi logos on the front fenders and tailgate.
In the quest for more dynamic characteristics, the 308 GTi not only sits 11mm closer to the ground, but has a wider track of 1,570mm at the front and 1,554mm at the rear. GTi 250 versions come with 18-inch “Diamant” alloy wheels, while GTi 270 versions feature the new 19-inch “Carbone” light-weight alloys. Other unique details include the 380mm front discs, complete with solid red four-piston calipers and Peugeot Sport signature.
The interior feels just as sporty as the exterior. The 308 GTi features red stitching on the upholstery, door panels, gear lever and luxury floor mats, aluminum GTi and Peugeot Sport logos, as well as aluminum pedals, foot rest and gear knob. The top GTi 270 model also gets bucket seats upholstered in Alcantara with red stitching.
The 308 GTi range can be ordered in Magnetic Blue, Artense Grey, Pearlescent White and Hurricane Grey, while the 308 GTi 270 will be offered with an exclusive “Coupe Franche” two-tone design combining the new “Ultimate Red” colour with “Perla Nera Black”.
