Following the successful launch of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer into our local market in April this year, BMW Group Malaysia is now expanding its MPV line-up with the introduction of the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer!
The Series Gran Tourer is essentially an enlarged version of the 2-Series Active Tourer that offer up to 7 seats and fully meet the mobility requirements of large families, in of course, luxury. As a result, the new model has familiar styling but adopts longer rear doors, a revised rear end and a higher roof.
Despite its compact dimensions – measuring just 4,556mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,608 mm high – the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer offers ample space and a generous luggage compartment that can be extended in capacity from 645 to 805 litres. With the rear-seat backrests folded down, this rises to 1,905 litres of load space.
Ensuring maximum variability is the standard-fitted sliding rear seat bench – with a 40:20:40-split backrest that folds down at the press of a button – which allows 3 child seats to be fitted. There’s also an optional third row of seats which can be completely lowered into the loading floor. Maximising the vehicle’s everyday practicality is a range of storage options for all 3 rows of seats, as well as rails on the front-seat backrests with fold-out tables attached.
Despite its spacious interior, the front aspect of the all-new BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is sporty, with a low windscreen and high bonnet to reduce its perceived height. It also carries a trio of BMW icons – the twin kidney grille, twin round headlights and brand logo. Meanwhile, LED headlights with hallmark BMW daytime running light rings are available as an upgrade from the standard LED daytime running lights. At the rear, other features including L-shaped taillights with LED light strip and aerodynamically shaped “Aeroblades” behind the D-pillars help reduce drag and makes for a more sporting rear design.
Hard at work under the bonnet of the all-new BMW 220i Gran Tourer is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers an impressive power output of 192hp and 280Nm of torque. The power is channeled to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. This allows the BMW 220i Gran Tourer to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 7.7 seconds while top speed is limited at 221km/h.
For even smoother driving pleasure, the design of this engine is supported with a two counter-rotating balancer shaft which ensures smooth running across the entire rev range. What makes for more agile response however, is the exhaust gases which functions to warm-up the engine and reduce interior friction. The all-new BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer also operates more efficiently with the close-coupled location of the catalytic converter and the electrically controlled boost pressure control valve which enables to car to reach impressive efficiency levels, reading at 6.2/100km and CO2 emissions level of 144g/km.
Just like other BMW cars, the all-new BMW 220i Gran Tourer benefits from a full range of BMW EfficientDynamics features including the ECO PRO mode with coasting function, Auto Start-Stop function, Brake Energy Regeneration, electric steering and electrified auxiliary systems. Meanwhile, additional aerodynamic enhancements including air vent control, air curtains on the front wheels and a roof spoiler integrated into the tailgate of the all-new BMW 220i Gran Tourer contribute to lowering the vehicle’s drag coefficient tailgate of the all-new BMW 220i GranTourer contribute to lowering the vehicle’s drag coefficient.
The all-new BMW 220i Gran Tourer comes with a comprehensive range of driver assistance and connectivity features. As standard features in the interior infotainment system, the all-new BMW 220i Gran Tourer comes equipped with the iDrive operating system including the iDrive Controller, 6.5-inch colour display and Navigation System. Moreover, the BMW Apps and enhanced Bluetooth connectivity to smartphones, as well as Radio BMW Professional are added features that can be enjoyed through a stereo speaker system with 4 loudspeakers.
The light, airy ambiance conveyed in the cabin of the all-new BMW 220i Gran Tourer is further accentuated by LED ambient lighting where in the night, the interior trim on the instrument panel and doors are gently illuminated in various adjustable colours. Its exquisite upholstery meanwhile is, available in Leather Dakota Black and Leather Dakota Oyster.
Colours available for the all-new BMW 220i GranTourer include Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Mineral Grey, and Glacier Silver while the colours Imperial Blue and Platinum Silver are made exclusively for the Luxury Line, featured as standard.
