Volkswagen Malaysia has officially unveiled a pair of Volkswagens today, namely the facelifted Polo hatchback and Polo Sedan. We first spotted the facelifted Volkswagen Polo hatchback here.
Initially previewed back in March 2015, and subsequently spotted in showroom in May 2015, the facelifted Volkswagen Polo hatchback has officially been launched. We got a word from a sales consultant that buyers who ordered the Polo hatchback from May 2015 onwards will be receiving the facelifted variant.
As mentioned in our earlier post, the facelift on the VW Polo hatchback is a significant one. The headlights, though retaining the same shape as the predecessor, now has a black finishing as compared to the chrome one before. The front grille drops almost all the chrome trim, save for a lone trim at the bottom of the grille. More chrome can be found on the revised bottom air dam of the facelifted Polo, which features a revised front foglight design.
The rear end of the facelifted VW Polo hatchback also gets revised, though not as drastic as the front fascia. The tail light design has been revised slightly, and isn’t noticeable on first glance. Apart from that, the number plate recess has also grown in size compared to the predecessor. A pair of reflectors can be found at the bottom of the newly revised rear bumper.
The facelifted Polo Sedan, on the other hand, does not get the same front fascia treatment, only benefiting from the black-faced headlights, giving the Polo Sedan the same look as the CBU variant before. No changes to the rear end of the Polo Sedan. Both models feature the same 15-inch Riverside alloy wheels with 185/60/R15 tires from Goodyear.
Interior wise, for the VW Polo hatchback, the black trim majority has been replaced by a new silver trim. The flat-bottomed steering wheel is derived from the Volkswagen Golf mk7. The new black-trimmed leather-wrapped steering wheel now has the ability to navigate through the multi-function display. Fabric design on the facelifted Polo is also new. The RCD 320 head unit, Climatronic automatic air conditioning, four speakers and cruise control has been carried over from the pre-facelift model.
The interior of the facelifted Polo Sedan isn’t as drastic as the hatchback sibling, as the Polo Sedan misses out on the silver trim that the hatchback gets. The facelifted Polo Sedan does get the same steering wheel as the Polo hatchback, which is nice.
Under the hood of both variants is a 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated inline four engine with 105 PS at 5,250 rpm and 153 Nm of torque at 3,800 rpm. The sole transmission choice offered is an Aisin-sourced six speed automatic with Tiptronic.
Prices start from RM90,646 for the hatchback variant, while the sedan goes for RM92,646. Both prices are inclusive of GST, but does not include insurance. Like other Volkswagen models, a 5-year/unlimited mileage warranty is offered to buyers.
