The Goodwood Festival of Speed is just around the corner and Peugeot will use this year’s motor show to host the global and European debuts of two brand new cars.
A new 308 performance model will make its world premiere at the show, while the muscular, 500bhp 308 R HYbrid concept car makes its European bow.
Although not pointing the obvious, it’s clear that the 308 performance model the French automaker is referring to is the 308GTi. The hot-hatch is expected to be powered by the same 266hp 4-cylinder turbocharged 1.6-litre, that’s available now on the RCZ R model. A manual gearbox (at least for now) and FWD are mandatory and judging by its spec, it will go head to head with the Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen Golf GTi.
The car will be presented as one of the static exhibits of Peugeot’s line-up, along with the 308 R HYbrid. But just in case someone wants to experience what a French GTi might feel like, visitors to the Moving Motor Show will be able to book drives up the famous Goodwood Hill Climb course in three of it’s exciting models – the 308 GT 205 THP Hatchback, 308 GT Line PureTech 1.2-litre and the nippy 208 ‘GTi by Peugeot Sport’. Or you can read our road rest review of the 308 1.6 THP here and 208 GTi here.
