Uber and Autonomous Cars?

UBER

When we think about self driving cars, the first thing that comes to mind is of course Google, Volvo, BMW, Audi and a slew of other manufacturers. I put Google first because although it is a tech company and not an automotive company, they have been making a fair bit of headwind in this area.

Instead of expecting one of the auto manufacturers to announce concrete and solid plans, it seems that Uber, the disruptor in the taxi space has decided to go ahead with these plans. An exclusive by the Pittsburgh Business Times has revealed that a car was spotted with the words “Uber Advanced Technologies” with a fancy gadget located on the roof of the car signalling that this isn’t your usual run of the mill car.

Uber is evolving the way the world moves. By seamlessly connecting riders to drivers through our apps, we make cities more accessible, opening up more possibilities for riders and more business for drivers. From our founding in 2009 to our launches in over 200 cities today, Uber’s rapidly expanding global presence continues to bring people and their cities closer – Uber Advanced Technologies

When reached out, Uber spokesperson says that it isn’t a self-driving car which technically it can’t be one without running through the arm of the law but suspects do say that it might be.

It seems like it is the advent of these new technology unicorns who are keen on continuing to disrupt the market, create new markets and pave the way forward.
