As many of you are aware, Ops Warta began yesterday in which a nationwide crackdown on motorists with outstanding summonses is currently underway. As of yesterday, a total of 69 individuals have been arrested.
Bukit Aman traffic chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Fuad Abdul Latiff said the arrests were made in Selangor, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Perak and Sabah.
“As at 12pm today (19th May 2015), Penang has the highest number of traffic offenders who were arrested (36 arrests), followed by Malacca (24 arrests),” he said, reports The Star.
He also revealed that Sarawak has the highest number of traffic offenders who surrendered themselves with a total 39 Sarawakians, while 3 are from Sabah and 2 are from Terengganu.
These arrest are performed during roadblocks and visits to offenders’ work premises before moving to the door-to-door search. However it appears that many of these traffic offenders were on emergency or medical leave during these visits.
As mentioned earlier, although Ops Warta has already started, motorists still have time to come forward and settle their outstanding summonses before it’s too late. You can do it via online at www.myeg.com.my and www.rilek.com.my, although it appears that both websites are currently having access difficulties at the moment; we wonder why…
Elsewhere, motorists are able to settle their summonses at any traffic police counter, post office and Road Transport Department branches, just to name a few.
