Boasting more features than its predecessor, the new Ford Mondeo is now available in showrooms nationwide. We already went for a short stint in one, and here’s our initial impressions of it.
Veemala Rethinasamy, sales and marketing director, Malaysia, Ford Motor Company said, “The new Mondeo delivers a first-class driving experience, with sophisticated features that enhance performance, comfort and convenience.”
The new Mondeo, like most other Ford models, is powered by Ford’s EcoBoost engine, with a cubic capacity of 2.0-litres. This turbocharged engine is capable of delivering a total of 240 PS and 345 Nm of torque. For the new Mondeo, the engine is now mated to a conventional SelectShift 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Ford claims that the Mondeo is capable of delivering a fuel economy of 8L / 100km.
Inside, the new Ford Mondeo hosts a plethora of smart technologies, like the unique Ford MyKey system, which allows the driver to program features such as setting the maximum speed limit, seat belt reminder and maximum volume for the sound system. Apart from that, the new Mondeo also comes with Ford’s SYNC2 system with an integrated 8-inch colour touch screen display.
Apart for the kit count, the new Ford Mondeo is also very safe, as the car managed to score a full 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Apart from that, the Mondeo also comes with Lane Keeping Aid to alert drivers if they unintentionally drift out of their lane. Similar to the Volvo XC90 T6 we reviewed here, the new Mondeo also comes with Adaptive Cruise Control.
The new Ford Mondeo is priced at RM198,000 on-the-road (without insurance, RM203,771 with insurance) and comes with Ford’s Extended Service Plan (ESP). The Ford ESP is a 3-year of 60,000 km maintenance program that covers selected wear-and-tear parts like spark plugs, shock absorbers, engine belts and wiper blades. Buyers can choose from four body colours, namely Frozen White, Ruby Red, Panther Black and Tectonic Silver.
