These days, it’s all about fuel efficiency… well recently, a Peugeot 208 BlueHDi has set a new long-distance fuel consumption record in France for a standard production vehicle by covering a distance of 2,152 kilometers with just 43 litres of diesel!
This means the car averaged just 2 litres/100 km, a far better result as compared to a non-hybrid car. Sounds too good to be true however, the test wasn’t carried out on public roads, but instead it took place on the Peugeot test circuit at Belchamp in France.
Supervised by the French Type Approval Authority, UTAC (Union Technique de l’Automobile, du motocycle et du Cycle), the test featured a standard production Peugeot 208 equipped with the 1.6-litre BlueHDi 100 S&S engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox, which covered the distance in 38 hours as several drivers took their turn at the wheel for 3 to 4 hours each.
The test unit features an aerodynamic rear spoiler and ultra-low rolling resistance Michelin Energy Saver+ tyres. The car’s official combined fuel economy is 3 litres/100 km, with corresponding CO2 emissions of 79 g/km.
