Come this Friday, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) will start enforcing the new window tinting regulations, after a grace period of six months was given to car owners.

JPJ Director General, Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad said that action will be taken taken against car owners who do not comply with the current regulations, as a grace period of six months was more than enough. He pointed out that they will not tolerate drivers who fail to comply with the new regulations.

From this Friday onwards, according to Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad, car owners who fail to comply with the regulations will be fined. He also said that the enforcement was supposed to start last November, but postponed after they reviewed various concerns and requirements from car owners.

Under the new ruling, the VLT (visible light transmission) for car owners are shown in the photo below. Just to recap, the front windscreen is allowed a VLT of 70%, while the front side windows are permitted with a VLT of 50%. The rear side windows, on the other hand, is allowed with a VLT of 30% and the rear windscreen has a permitted VLT of 30%.

And while we’re at it, check out the regulations on number plates as well as HID and strobe light usage.
