Political Unrest in Thailand caused Cancellation of Race of Champions 2013

The Race Of Champions (ROC) which was supposed to held in Thailand this year, has been cancelled. ROC  is an annual event held at the end of the year where race car drivers from all forms of motor sports gathered to compete for top honors.

The Sports Authority of Thailand and RoC organisers made a joint announcement confirming the postponement of the planned event on 14-15 December due to the political unrest in Thailand that currently hitting the country.

“Our thoughts are with the Thai people during this difficult period, and we wish that a peaceful solution will soon be found,” a statement from the RoC confirmed, “The Race of Champions has been held all over the world for 25 consecutive years and we are currently looking at options of repeating the success of last year’s event in Bangkok on another date.”

The event attracts world-class race drivers such as Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher, and many more where they will be competing in two main categories. The first one is the ROC Nations’ Cup; where allows a team of two to represent their country, while another is Champion of Champions; where individual drivers compete to become the best race driver in the world. The event showcase drivers from various motor racing categories from open wheel, rallying and sports car racing; to compete against each other in identical cars in a stadium arena.

Thailand has successfully hosted the 2012 edition in the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok; where Lotus F1 driver, Romain Grosjean, won the “Champions of Champion” category while team Germany, represented by Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher, took home the Nation’s cup.
