Here you have it folks! Those of you who have been waiting to purchase a premium compact MPV can now place your bookings for the all-new BMW 218i Active Tourer at your nearest BMW showroom.
Officially launched at the recently concluded BMW World event and priced at RM218, 800 on-the-road without insurance, the BMW 218i Active Tourer is the company’s first-ever front-wheel drive MPV. Being an MPV, its driver and front passenger might be able to enjoy a far higher seating position than in a sedan, which affords a commanding all-round view at the same time making it easier to get in and out. The wealth of storage facilities and the option of a fold-flat passenger seat backrest are just two examples of the interior’s impressive flexibility and cleverly devised layout.
The versatile luggage compartment, whose capacity can be enlarged from 468- to 1,510-litres, and the 40:20:40 split-folding rear backrest fitted as standard exemplify this model’s excellent everyday practicality. Flexibility is enhanced by a sliding rear seat which allows legroom in the rear or the load compartment capacity to be increased as required.
One particularly smart touch is the foldable boot floor that conceals a storage compartment with a handy multifunction tray. The rear backrest can be adjusted as an option to offer either added comfort for the three rear seats or extra luggage space. Access to the luggage compartment couldn’t be easier thanks to the large, broad, wide-opening tailgate. This can be optionally specified with push button automatic opening and closing or touchless gesture control.
Under the hood, power is supplied by a 1.5-litre TwinTurbo Power 3-cylinder engine that generates 136hp and 220 Nm of torque. When mated to a 6-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, the 218i can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of up to 205 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.2-litres/100km while CO2 emission is 122g/km.
In addition to the standard version, for an additional RM30,000, buyers can upgrade their MPV with the Luxury Line package. This includes 18-inch light-alloy wheels; chrome kidney grille, front air inlets, rear apron and exhaust tailpipe; automatic operation of tailgate, park assistant, and Park Distance Control on the front and rear. Inside, the Luxury Line package adds in Dakota Leather upholstery with perforations, door sill finishers on outlets (cockpit centre and sides) in Pearl Chrome, contrast stictching on the dashboard, HiFi loudspeaker system with 7 speaker and navigation system with 6.5-inch display monitor, among others.
