The continued demand for the Ford Ranger, EcoSport and Fiesta has resulted in Ford Malaysia announcing an all-time record monthly performance in March of 2015 with sales rising 46% to 1,818 units.
Sales this quarter has also seen an increase of 24% to 4,611 units, partly driven by a surge of demand before the implementation of GST on 1st April 2015.
David Westerman, managing director, Malaysia and Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company said, “We’re pleased that heightened March demand meant more and more customers were attracted to the leading safety, quality, smart technologies and value for money that our global Ford vehicles offer. We are anticipating some market correction in the coming months due to the pull forward in demand that the GST’s impending implementation created.”
The most popular Ford model in Malaysia is the Ranger, with a total of 1,369 units sold, an increase of 42% from the month before. First quarter sales increased 36% to 3,504 units. “With a class-leading combination of active and passive safety features, the comfort of a passenger car, and the ruggedness and dependability of a pickup truck, the Ranger continues to be embraced for both work and play by Malaysians nationwide” continued Westerman.
Following behind the Ranger is the Fiesta, with a total of 178 units sold. This marks an increase of 38% from the month before, and finished the first quarter with 474 units sold. “Fiesta appeals to discerning customers in the city car category who appreciate its sporty looks, smart technologies, as well as the power, performance and fuel efficiency of the 1.0L EcoBoost engine” explained Westerman.
March also saw a total of 132 units of the EcoSport sold, an increase of 11%, bringing first quarter sales up to 271 units. “The EcoSport is a right-sized vehicle that was developed with the market’s traffic and road conditions in mind. Combine this with its practical smart features like SYNC and Hill Launch Assist, and a very attractive price point, and it’s really starting to create its own space in the market” said Westerman.
Last but not least, a total of 79 units of the Ford Focus found new homes, an increase of 9% to 79 units.
