Team Proton R3 has won both Race 1 & Race 2 at the first round of the Malaysian Championship Series 2015 (MCS) at Sepang over the weekend.
Race 1 was held on Saturday with Fariqe Hairuman in the no.11 Proton Suprima S while his team mate Syafiq Ali started the race in the no.12 Proton Preve. Both R3 cars started at the back of the grid due to some problems during qualifying. Due to the number of cars (54 in total), havoc was ensured at Turn 1, as competitors fought for position. By the end of the 9 lap race, Fariqe finished in first position, while team mate Syafiq finished in third.
On Sunday, James Veerapen started in pole position for Race 2 in the MTC class in car 11, with team mate Syafiq Ali in car 12. Even with a bad start, James managed to gain first place after just one lap, battling through heavy traffic. The race was stopped due to an accident involving two Renault Clios from the Clio Cup China Series. James finished first, while Syafiq finished second, because of the accident.
The first round of MCS also marks the return of Fariqe Hairuman, as he was missing from the racing scene for a year. He will be partnering with James Veerapen for the rest of the 2015 season. The next round of MCS will be held from 24-26 April 2015.
