Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has announced that the contract to host the Formula One Malaysia Grand Prix has been extended for another 3 years until 2018.

The news was announced by our Prime Minister, Y.A.B. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak, after the conclusion of the 17th edition of the 2015 F1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit this past weekend.

It was also confirmed that Petronas will continue to be the title sponsor of the prestigious event for the next three years. Petronas has been supporting the race in Malaysia since it was first held in 1999.

The contract for the extension was signed following the successful negotiations between SIC and Formula One Management. The Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix has been a major annual sporting event in the country since it was first hosted here in 1999.

At the 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix last weekend, Sebastian Vettel scored a first win of his Ferrari career, ambushing the dominant Mercedes team by expertly converting a two-stop strategy to relegate championship leader Lewis Hamilton to second place and Nico Rosberg to third.

Overall, Lewis Hamilton still leads the Driver’s Championship with 43 points, while Vettel is just behind with 40 points, and Rosberg at 33 points. On the Constructor’s side, Mercedes has 76 points, Ferrari has 52, Williams has 30.
