After yesterday’s Ford Ranger launch, Ford has taken centre stage with yet another launch, this time launching the all-new Ford Everest, both at the 2015 Bangkok Motor Show.
Now riding on an all-new platform, the Ford Everest makes an official global debut today at the 2015 Bangkok International Motor Show. Like the Ford Ranger, the new Ford Everest shares a similarly designed front end with a new trapezoid-shaped grille.
Matt Bradley, president, Ford ASEAN said, “With the new Ford Everest, we’re further strengthening our showroom lineup across ASEAN markets with a fully capable and competitive premium SUV that works equally well as a comfortable and refined family vehicle or taking on the roughest terrains of Southeast Asia. It’s a completely new vehicle inside and out with a host of first-in-class features, providing unmatched value in its segment.”
Design of the new Ford Everest is done by the Ford Asia Pacific design and product development team. The new Ford Everest will be available in both four-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive variants.
Despite its new looks, the new Ford Everest packs quite a punch, as it sports an intelligent four-wheel drive system, an active transfer case with Torque on Demand, Terrain Management System, and best-in-class ground clearance of 225 mm and water-wading capability of 800 mm.
The Terrain Management System allows the driver to choose from several presets, namely Normal, Snow/Gravel/Grass, Sand and Rock that alters throttle response, transmission, intelligent four-wheel drive system and traction control for better traction. The new Ford Everest features coil spring front and rear suspension and a Watt’s linkage on the rear axle to ensure passengers get a comfortable ride, at the same time, the driver gets a stable and predictable handling on the road.
Under the hood, the Ford Everest is available with the new 3.2-litre Duratorq five-cylinder TDCi turbodiesel engine with 147 kW of power and 470 Nm of torque. Like the new Ford Ranger, the new 3.2-litre block now has a revised exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system that enhances fuel economy. Ford will also be offering the 2.2-litre Duratorq four-cylinder TDCi engine with 118 kW and 385 Nm of torque. Both engines can be mated to either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission.
Features wise, the new Ford Everest has a dual-panel moon roof, a first-in-class powered liftgate, more than 30 storage spaces, multiple power outlets and cleverly designed flat-folding seats.
Richard Tilley, vehicle line director, Ford Asia Pacific said, “With its safe and smart features, a refined interior and outstanding on-road and off-road capabilities, the new Ford Everest sets a new standard in the medium SUV segment and represents a compelling addition to our global lineup of SUVs in ASEAN markets. Taking advantage of our global design and development expertise, and our proud heritage in the utility segment, we’ve created a vehicle that goes far beyond customer expectations.”
The new Ford Everest, together with the new Ford Ranger will be making a Malaysian debut soon, so stay tuned for the latest updates!
