Honda has just released this video of the new 2016 Honda Civic Type R being driven very hard around the Nurburgring with a timer. According to Honda, their latest hot hatch lapped the Green Hell in just 7:50:63, shaving some 4 seconds off the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R.
At a glance, specs wise both the Honda Civic Type R and the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R are very similar, as both sport a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The Renault makes roughly 271 bhp, but Honda remained tight lipped on the power output of their Civic Type R, saying that it makes in excess of 280 hp. Now that the 2016 Honda Civic Type R has been launched, the official power output of the new Type R is a staggering 306 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, all through the front wheels. Honda has devised a clever suspension setup that is said to reduce torque steer.
With the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R dethroned, the hot hatch battle has started again. We can’t wait for the arrival of the new Civic Type R’s local arrival.
