How good are you at parallel parking? If you live in a major city, learning how to parallel park is an essential driving skill that you are bound to have to do it sooner or later. Whether you’ve been driving for a long time or are a new driver, parking in a tight parallel space can be a daunting task. Don’t feel overwhelmed because parallel parking is a pretty simple job actually, and all you need to do is to follow these easy steps below:
1. Choose a parking spot that provides enough space for your vehicle to parallel park. The space needs to ideally be at least 1 ½ times the size of your car to allow you to manoeuvre into the space properly.
2. If you found a parking space, pull alongside the car ahead of the space you found. Make sure you are about 2-feet away from that car, align your rear axle with that car’s bumper. Turn the wheel toward the curb at full lock.
3. Reverse until the centre of your inside rear tyre aligns with the streetside edge of the forward car. Straighten the wheel, then continue to reverse.
4. When your outside front tyre aligns with that same edge, turn the wheel the other way.
5. If all goes according to plan, you can stop the engine and get out to admire your work.
