The Ford Fiesta might not be the best-selling small car in Malaysia, (no thanks to our local carmaker dominating the compact category) but it was Europe’s best-selling small car in 2014. This is the third year running where the Ford Fiesta dominates the small car category when 308,999 units were sold on the continent last year. That equals to 1 unit sold every 104 seconds!
One of the most popular models is the Fiesta 1.0-litre EcoBoost, equipped with Ford’s three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which also in 2014 was named International Engine of the Year for the third consecutive year. In standard form, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine produces 99hp, but the variant offered in Malaysia is a more powerful version with 123hp.
Starting this month, Ford will increase Fiesta production at the Cologne plant by 300 units a day to 1,850 vehicles. Ford also scheduled 6 additional weekend shifts in January and February to meet demand for the supermini.
