Toyota has managed to retain its title as the world’s largest automaker this year, as it has broken through the 10,000,000 unit mark with an impressive 10.23 million cars sold in 2014.
Compared to 2013, sales of Toyota increased by 3% to 10.23 million vehicles, thus hitting the 10 million mark for the first time. However, they are estimating a 1% decrease in deliveries in 2015 to 10.15 million cars due to an expected slower demand at home in Japan as well as in emerging markets.
Another factor that is expected to affect Toyota sales this year is the decrease in oil price, which saps demand for hybrid vehicles.
The Volkswagen Group, which also hit the 10 million milestone for the first time by shipping a total of 10.14 million vehicles, representing a 4.2% hike, came in second place. General Motors took third place with a 2% increase in deliveries to 9.92 million units.
