Fans of the Ford Mustang, it is time to rejoice as Ford has begun exporting their iconic Mustang to the Asian region. This is the first time the Mustang has been officially exported out of its homeland. It will be sold in more than 100 countries worldwide, including Malaysia!
Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of The Americas said, “Henry Ford exported the sixth Model A assembled in 1903 and we continue this legacy today. The success of our One Ford plan presents opportunities for growth in global markets. Exporting Ford and Lincoln vehicles to Asia Pacific and beyond is an important part of Ford’s global growth story. Mustang is just one more example of the international demand for Ford cars and trucks.”
For Ford, exporting the Mustang to over a hundred countries ain’t as easy as it sounds, as they have to undergo a series of steps to ensure compliance with vehicle standards in the destination countries. In order for Ford to track progress and delivery, all vehicles undergo proper customs documentation and tracking. They will also receive finishing touches at their respective homologation centres. Some vehicles will receive an underbody coating, with documents in the respective countries’ language.
Gerald Schoenle, director, Ford Trading Company said, “Preparing these vehicles for shipment to their final destination is critical to satisfying both customer and regulatory requirements for our markets around the world. We want our customers globally to know that their Ford vehicles will meet emissions, safety and road-worthiness requirements.”
The Ford Mustang is slated for a Malaysian debut some time this year, and we are certainly looking forward to this iconic pony car!
