Slated for production later this year, McLaren has ramped up the development programme for its P1 GTR, with the racer being tested at Europe and the Middle East. The McLaren P1 GTR will be making a global debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Boasting a power-to-weight ratio of over 700 PS per tonne, the McLaren P1 GTR manages to do so with extensive weight-saving diet and track-optimisation of the P1 GTR’s petrol-electric powertrain. The track-only P1 GTR has completed thousands of kilometers testing at various European and UK locations, even completing tests at Bahrain and Qatar.

The McLaren P1 GTR will feature the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 like its road-going sibling, but with an increase of 83 horsepower, bringing the horsepower count to a mental 986bhp. Besides the increase in horsepower, the P1 GTR will also have a wider front track, lower ride height and repositioned side mirrors.

McLaren is also taking a leaf from Ferrari’s XX Program, as they will be introducing a new McLaren P1™ GTR Driver Programme, where drivers will be invited to Woking, UK, home of the McLaren Technology Centre. From there, they will get to experience some of the world’s best racing circuits while driving one of the most extreme McLaren racers.
