Wagons may be a niche here in Malaysia, but over in Europe, they are quite welcomed, which explains why SEAT has launched a hotter version of the Leon CUPRA Estate.

Under the hood of the SEAT Leon ST CUPRA is a 2.0-litre TSI engine, and depending on variant, it can produce 261 horsepower (265 PS) and 350 Nm of twist. When paired to the manual transmission, the Leon ST CUPRA can sprint to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds, while the DSG-equipped variant can complete the same century sprint in just 6.1 seconds. SEAT is also offering a more powerful variant of the CUPRA, called the Leon ST CUPRA 280. Engine remains the same, but power has been increased to 276 horsepower (280 PS), while torque figures remain identical. The Leon ST CUPRA 280 can achieve 100 km/h from standstill in just 6.0 seconds when mated to the DSG transmission, while the stick shift variant does the same sprint in just 6.1 seconds. All variants will have an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The SEAT Leon ST CUPRA 280 features Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), front-axle differential lock and progressive steering all fitted as standard equipment. With 350 Nm of twist, it’s no surprise that the front-axle differential lock has been improved substantially, and has a maximum locking force is 1,600 Nm. If needed, 100% of the torque can be transferred to just one wheel. This electronically controlled front-axle differential improves traction, and at the same time, reduces dreaded torque-steer.

Like a sports car, the CUPRA Drive Profile offers 3 modes, ranging from Comfort, Sport and CUPRA. The highlight is the CUPRA mode, as that mode sharpens up throttle response, DCC, the front-axle differential lock and progressive steering operates in its sportiest mode. When paired with the optional DSG gearbox, it, too, will operate in its sportiest setting.

From the exterior, the SEAT Leon ST CUPRA sports full LED headlights and LED tail lights. The Leon ST CUPRA 280 sports 19-inch wheels, while the lesser model has 18-inch wheels instead.

The SEAT Leon ST CUPRA will be officially launched during the Geneva Motor Show in March, but it is very unlikely for SEAT to make a presence locally.
